Windows 8 and Windows 10 integrates a more robust version of Windows Defender (and uses that name) for its anti-virus and anti-malware protection. Windows 8/10 Defender provides the same level of protection against malware as Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) provides on older operation systems and uses the same daily virus definition updates. If you use Microsoft Security Essentials, you don’t need Windows Defender. When you download Microsoft Security Essentials, it will turn off (but not uninstall) Windows Defender automatically. It does this so that you don’t have two programs on your computer that are doing the same thing.

Security EssentialsMicrosoft introduced Security Essentials to cover the gap left open by Windows Defender. MSE was designed to provide real-time protection against a fuller range of malicious software than its predecessor. MSE defends against malware like viruses and worms, Trojans, rootkits, spyware and others. Installing Security Essentials disables Defender, if present, as part of its install procedure.

Difference

On Windows XP, MSE actually deletes Defender. It is never a good idea to install multiple anti-malware products because they sometimes interfere with each other and cause performance problems.

HiiAs per my knowledge and searching over the web there are some of the features for both of the MSE and defender which are makes them different from each other.Because defender is only antispyware. On the other hand MSE includes this functionality and also includes full virus protection. You dont have to use MSE if you have any other antivirus installed in your pc.And yes you are right installing MSE will uninstall or disable defender but it depends on the fact which OS you are using. But most of the people also recommend MSE over defender for their pc's protection.thanks. Hi,So far Widows Defender is concerned, it is primarily designed as an anti Spyware and anti Malware programs. It helps protect the computer from infection of these malicious programs, in two ways:a. Real Time Protection - that is protects during the running time of the computer and alerts when it finds anything objectionable.b. Scan Mode - means it can scan the system for the presence of any spyware or malware and detect them and inform when found. In case of Microsoft Security Essential, it is a complete anti virus program that search, find and either quarentine or kill the virus, worms, trojan etc.from your system as well as cookies, emails and net related files along with computer and its files within.Thanks.
