IntroductionOne of the most common problems seen on this subreddit is a bricked OnePlus. Being bricked can be caused by a wide range of issues, and simply describes the fact you cannot access the normal system of your phone. It's not nice when it happens - especially when you've done nothing wrong or out of the ordinary. Fortunately, there is almost always a way to fix it that doesn't require sending your phone off for repair, assuming there is no hardware damage. In fact, most of these fixes will take you under 10 minutes. This post will try to address the most common situations of a bricked OnePlus and the methods to fix them. However, if at any point you need some further help - please ask!I know this is a bloody long post, but believe me when I say that you will save yourself much more time and heartache by reading it carefully and fully than jumping in and going too quickly.

Is it soft or hard? This is the first question you should ask yourself when you think you've bricked your phone. Soft-bricks are generally very easy to recover from, hard-bricks will take more work.Soft-brick: When rebooting normally, your phone may bootloop, get stuck at the bootscreen or be blank after the bootscreen. You CAN access recovery and/or fastboot.Hard-brick: When rebooting normally, your phone may get stuck at the OnePlus logo, have a blank screen, vibrate or simply show no signs of life. You CANNOT access recovery or fastboot. The simplest way to check if you're soft-bricked is to hold POWER + VOLUME DOWN. This key combination will restart your phone into recovery mode. If you are able to access this, you are soft-bricked.If this fails, hold POWER + VOLUME UP to reboot into fastboot. If you are able to access this, you are still soft-bricked (albeit in a bit of a worse situation).

You will/may need. 1 x Bricked OnePlus device. 1 x USB cable for your phone. 1 x PC (Mac and Linux are possible, but I will be using Windows to describe the procedure).

1 x Internet connection to said PC. 1 x Android ADB drivers. 5 x PatienceNB: I will try to accommodate for different ROMs and situations - if you have a custom recovery, your options will differ from those without.

I will attempt to cover as much as possible. If I miss something, or something doesn't seem applicable to you, ask! So you've just soft-bricked your OnePlus. (and can access recovery)Regardless of how you got to this point, the absolute first thing to try in this situation is to clear the cache/dalvik partition. This is easy, quick and will not delete any of your apps or data.Plug your phone in to charge from either a socket or your PC. We don't want it dying at a critical moment.Reboot into recovery.Depending on your recovery version:. Cyanogen recovery: Select Wipe cache partition from the main menu and then reboot.

TWRP recovery: Select Wipe Advanced Wipe. Only tick Cache and Dalvik cache. Swipe to wipe and reboot.Your phone will begin to reboot and rebuild the cache for your apps - this may take a few minutes depending on how many apps you have.Hopefully this should be the end of your troubles. Kn-q7a single band ssb transceiver kit. If not, we'll need to re-flash your ROM to renew the system. For this, we're going to need to plug your phone into your PC if you haven't already done so.Reboot into recovery. If you are familiar with ADB tools, and are set up to use them, skip to step 13.Your PC should recognise your device. Check under Device Manager for an item called Android ADB Interface or similar. It should NOT have a yellow triangle.

If it does, right click and select Uninstall and check the Delete driver software box. Then install the drivers recommended above.Install ADB tools. You can download either the (180MB) or (1MB).Extract the downloaded zip and place the android-sdk-windows folder somewhere you'll remember. If you chose to download the slimmed down version then skip to step 13.Go into the android-sdk-windows folder and run SDK Manager.exe. Install the following:.

Tools Android SDK Tools, Android SDK Platform-tools. Extras Android Support Library, Google USB DriverYou should see a new folder named platform-tools appear in the android-sdk-windows folder.Open a command prompt window (admin) and enter the following: cd.Place where you put folder./android-sdk-windows/platform-toolsadb versionYou should see a result of Android Debug Bridge version x.x.xx. If you don't, check back carefully on the previous steps.Download a zip file of your current ROM.

Some links to Cyanogen ROMs:.Place your chosen zip download in the platform-tools folder. You may wish to rename it to something more memorable. If you closed your command prompt windows, use: cd.Place where you put folder./android-sdk-windows/platform-toolsand then type the command: adb devicesa serial number should appear followed by the word recovery. If it doesn't, check your phone is plugged in, in recovery mode and is recognised in Device manager.Enter the command: adb push.Name of ROM file.zip /sdcard/and WAIT until it is complete to move to the next step.Depending on your recovery version:. Cyanogen recovery: Select Apply update and then navigate to the zip file you just pushed. Select it and apply. TWRP recovery: Select Install and then navigate to the zip file you just pushed.

Swipe to install and then reboot.Your phone will now (hopefully) reboot into system. If you are still stuck, a factory wipe may be required. If you're now in this situation, it may be worth posting a comment before proceeding. It is rare that a reflash of ROM will not fix a soft-brick. You will be able to make a back up of your current data using either ADB tools or TWRP recovery. Let me know if you need to walk through this step. After making a backup, do the following:.

Cyanogen recovery: Select Wipe and then swipe. Reboot. TWRP recovery: Select Wipe data/factory reset. Reboot. If you're still stuck after this step, unfortunately this may be indicative of a greater problem (hardware). You can try the following steps, but there is no guarantee these will help you further. So you've just soft-bricked your OnePlus. (and can't access recovery)You're probably in this situation because you've wiped or corrupted your system and recovery.

It's extremely rare for this to happen with no fault on your part. In this case, the only solution is going to be flashing a new recovery. If you haven't already got an unlocked bootloader, this process will wipe your phone.Plug your phone into your PC.

We're going to need it.Boot into fastboot by holding POWER + VOLUME UP. Your phone should show some recognition of being in fastboot mode and your PC should recognise it. If it doesn't, see steps 8 - 12 from So you've just soft-bricked your OnePlus. (and can access recovery). We have two paths here: if you already have an unlocked bootloader, then skip to step 5.Open command prompt and enter: cd.Place where you put folder./android-sdk-windows/platform-toolsfastboot devicesYou should see a device serial number appear. The following command will wipe your data and apps. Now perform: fastboot oem unlock. Now hold POWER + VOLUME UP to reboot into fastboot again. Your phone is now ready to install a custom recovery.Download your chosen custom recovery image.

Personally I recommend Place the image file in your platform-tools folder.Open command prompt and enter: cd.Place where you put folder./android-sdk-windows/platform-toolsfastboot flash recovery.Recovery image name.imgThis will flash your recovery image. Now hold VOLUME DOWN and enter fastboot rebootYou will reboot into your custom recovery. Now follow from step 13 in So you've just soft-bricked your OnePlus. (and can access recovery). So you've just hard-bricked your OnePlus. Before anything. Please check that your phone isn't simply out of battery. Plug it in for half an hour and then try booting. If not.Oh dear.

First thing to know is that you will be losing your data. The only way to recover from a hard-brick like this is to use Qualcomm's ColorOS installer to get life back into your phone.Connect your phone to your PC and open Device Manager. You should see your device listed as QHSUSBBULK. Right click and select Uninstall and check the box to delete installed drivers. If you don't see your device, hold POWER + VOLUME UP on your phone for 10 seconds.Unplug your phone and turn it off.Download the ColorOS installer from.Extract this folder and find the file Driver.iso.Extract Driver.iso and find Setup.exe. It will be in Chinese, so either be glad you took those extra credits in college or just click through. (There have been reported difficulties with this step on Windows 7, 8 and 10.).Connect your phone and hold POWER + VOLUME UP for 10 seconds.Launch the Msm8974DownloadTool.exe file as administrator from your extracted zip. It will scan the COM ports for your phone.

It will appear on the only line that is different. If you don't see a different line, try reconnecting your phone, or holding POWER + VOLUME UP.Once you see your phone, select Start and let it do it's thing. After a while the line should turn green.Your phone should now have the Chinese ColorOS installed on it. You can proceed to flash Cyanogen over it. Does a pretty good job of explaining this.Hopefully by now you're no longer bricked:).

Okay, So I just updated to the latest cyanogenmod 12.1 update through TWRP. As you describe, its hard-bricked. It won't vibrate upon trying to turn it on, no logo comes up, no screen reaction at all. I can't even get into TWRP. So the phone seems to be 'dead'. But When I first plug it into my laptop, it does nothing. However, when I hold Volume UP+Power like you said, my computer makes the typical 'bing' sound like something is connected.

But my device doesn't show up. Have you encountered this problem?.

There is a program called unetbootin that makes the process very easy. Let me know if you would like more info on thisedit2: updated the OP with full instructions on how to use the iso. We need some help. Can someone familiar with booting to cd or usb test the iso image out? Follow the bottom set of instructions in the OP, but instead of typing 'stormer', type 'tester'.

It will not flash anything to your device as long as you only use 'tester'.We need to know if the device is recognized in the live environment, and typing 'tester' as the codename will look for the device and display what block it's mounted on. Please let us know as soon as possible if it recognizes your device and what block it is on. My Boost Max won't boot.

I was out and had 11% power left. I tapped the battery booster button in the All in One Toolbox which redirected me to the play store to download and install Battery Booster Lite (by Imoblife Inc). I installed it and selected the smart battery option trying to maintain what was left of my power so I could take pics at my daughter's performance. However we were instructed to power off all phones.

I shut my phone down and afterwards it would not boot at all. Even when I connected it to the charger once I got home, no red light, no charging indicator on the screen. It's been at least an hour and still nothing. PLEASE HELP!! My Boost Max won't boot. I was out and had 11% power left.
