MTA New York City Transit announced that, as part of an ongoing commitment to provide more transparent and useful information to the riding public, the “Service Status” notices on mta.info and on other channels will provide a much deeper level of detail, with seven new categories of service status conveyed on a line-by-line basis. In the system being retired, there are only several broad categories, and multiple subway lines are grouped together by corridor, making it difficult to tell at a glance exactly what line is impacted in what manner. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority began the next phase of the L Project on Friday night, April 26, 2019. For the next 15-18 months, crews will use new construction methods and technology to rehabilitate the Canarsie Tunnel that was badly damaged in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy. The new improved construction plan and schedule maintains regular weekday and peak hour service for 90 percent of L customers by keeping service normal on weekdays and during peak hours.
